Alexander Skarsgard, the hunky Swedish actor who plays Eric Northman in HBO’s True Blood, is the face of Calvin Klein’s new men’s fragrance, Encounter. Skarsgard, 35, who stars in print and television ads for the new product, was intrigued by the commercial’s concept.
“Their idea for their concept was very intriguing to me — it was almost like a short film and very film noir,” the actor said. It felt interesting to me. I wanted to be involved with something where you tell a story — even though it’s a short story.”
Skarsgard appears alongside Lara Stone in the Encounter ads. The actor joins Justin Timberlake, Ryan Reynolds, James Franco, and Matthew McConaughey in the club of male celebrities who have starred in ads for men’s fragrances. Actor Brad Pitt also signed a recent deal, though he’ll represent the iconic women’s fragrance, Chanel No. 5.
Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Alexander Skarsgard is best known for his role in True Blood, though he’s also starred or appeared in Zoolander, Generation Kill, Melancholia, Straw Dogs, Battleship, and Lady Gaga’s music video, “Paparazzi.”
Fans can next catch Skarsgard in the upcoming films What Maisie Knew, Disconnect, and The East, as well as the fifth season of True Blood which premieres on HBO this Sunday (June 10).
