When a director is known for a wildly popular teen-drama (which is also loved by many adults, to boot!), and then said director works on a new film, it’s only natural to want to draw comparisons between the two movies.  Such is the case with Catherine Hardwicke: Twilight vs. Red Riding Hood.

Hardwicke has directed Twilight movies in the past, and now with Red Riding Hood opening in theaters this weekend, more comparisons are sure to start flowing. So let’s see what we can gather by checking out the trailers.

In Twilight, the main storyline is such that a girl (Kristen Stewart) becomes intrigued by a guy she can’t quite figure out – Edward (Robert Pattinson). The themes include a dainty woman needing protection (from a pack of werewolves), everlasting love, and a murder in the village creating tension. There are mostly blueish tones to the film (cold skin, cloudy days).

In Red Riding Hood, the main storyline is that a girl (Amanda Seyfried) falls for a guy (Shiloh Fernandez) who is “wrong” for her. Themes include a dainty woman needing protection (again, from a werewolf!) again, everlasting love, and again, murder in the village creating conflict. There are mostly reddish tones to the film (Seyfried's cape, fire in the town).

Seems pretty similar, huh? Add in two interesting quotes from the movie trailers.

Twilight: “I’d rather die than stay away from you” – Bella to Edward

Red Riding Hood: “I’d do anything to be with you.” – Valerie to Peter

Well, that’s curious!

Check out Red Riding Hood, opening in theaters this weekend to see more similarities and differences between the films!
