You read that right. Not John Slattery, but his character, Roger Sterling, is set to release a book on November 16 this year. The book is titled “Sterling’s Gold” with the subtitle “Wit & Wisdom of an Ad Man.”

Slattery, who portrays Sterling in AMC's hit show Mad Men, did not pen the book. In fact, the item description on Amazon.com doesn’t even tell us who really did write the book, so maybe he did. But I kind of doubt it – if I had to guess, I’d say it was written by Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner and his team of writers. Hopefully, the book will offer some insight on the characters/staff at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce.

The book is described as ‘wit and wisdom’ from an ad man – that ad man, of course, being one of four partners (or five, if you’re counting Pete Campbell, even though his name isn’t on the walls) of the firm.

The book looks like it will be a sort of autobiography – “Advertising pioneer and visionary Roger Sterling, Jr., served with distinction in the Navy during World War II, and joined Sterling Cooper Advertsing as a junior account executive. He worked his way up to managing partner before leaving to found his own agency, Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce, in 1963,” says the book’s description.

Some delightful excerpts from this ad man’s wit and wisdom:

“The day you sign a client is the day you start losing him.”

“When a man gets to a point in his life when his name’s on the building, he can get an unnatural sense of entitlement.”

“Being with a client is like being in a marriage. Sometimes you get into it for the wrong reasons, and eventually they hit you in the face.”

“When God closes a door, he opens a dress.”

Sterling’s Gold is said to cover it all: “business, marriage, and the taste of success made sweeter with a glass of something strong” (which, in Sterling’s case, is likely vodka).

I don’t know about anyone else around here, but I’m slightly obsessed with this show, so I’m pretty excited that this book is happening. Any other Mad Men fans out there?
