Kaui Hart Hemmings acknowledges that what she's living right now is anything but common. As the author of The Descendants, knew that it was optioned and pushed out by her agent, but never anticipated things would go quite this way.

"It's rare to have a book actually become a movie, and it's even more rare to have it become such a beautiful film," she told StarCam's Jennifer Tapiero at the Writers Guild Awards. "Alexander Payne just did such a good job with the adaption and with the film. It's been an incredible experience."

Kaui had a really unique opportunity in addition to watching her book come to life on a movie screen. She is a Hawaii native, so while they were filming there she not only got to be George Clooney's secretary in the movie, but she got to show everyone around her stomping ground. The homes used in the movie actually belonged to some of her friends and family members!

In just a short time, Kaui saw her book dominate box offices and now it's having the same effect on award season. With the Oscars right around the corner, Kaui is hoping for the best but nothing is going to knock her off of the cloud she's on.

She said, "I would love them to win the Oscar and if they don't, that's fine too because just the whole experience was perfect."
