Hugh Jackman's already signed on, and now Jake Gyllenhaal is in negotiations to star opposite him in the film Prisoners. It's a thriller directed by Denis Villeneuve and it centers on a small-town carpenter (played by Jackman) whose young daughter and best friend are kidnapped. Police can't find them, so the carpenter takes the law into his own hands by kidnapping the man he thinks is responsible. But he picks the wrong guy, as the kidnappings continue.
If all goes according to plan, Gyllenhaal will make a deal to play the detective investigating the crimes who crosses paths with the carpenter.
Aaron Guzikowski is behind writing the script for the movie, and Alcon's Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson will produce it, along with 8:38 Productions' Kira Davis and Madhouse Entertainment's Adam Kolbrenner. Executive producing will be Ed McDonnell and John Stark. Filming is expected to begin in early 2013.
Gyllenhaal currently has a movie in theaters called End of Watch, which beat out Clint Eastwood's Trouble with the Curve and The House at the End of the Street, which stars The Hunger Games' Jennifer Lawrence. End of Watch earned $13.1 million this weekend.
