It’s been three years since Green Day’s last album, 21st Century Breakdown, hit shelves, but the band plans to make up for lost time by releasing a trio of albums in less than twelve months.
"Ok. Here's the deal,” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong wrote in a Tweet on Wednesday. “We're making a 3 album trilogy. Not 1. Not 2. But 3 albums. Called ¡UNO! ¡DOS! ¡TRE!”
A statement on the band’s website reveals that Green Day plans to release the albums on September 25th (¡Uno!), November 13th (¡Dos!), and January 15th, 2013 (¡Tré!). The band will record the records in their hometown of Oakland, CA, and Rob Cavallo will once again produce.
“We are at the most prolific and creative time in our lives. This is the best music we've ever written, and the songs just keep coming,” said the members of Green Day. “Instead of making one album, we are making a three album trilogy. Every song has the power and energy that represents Green Day on all emotional levels. We just can't help ourselves... We are going epic as fuck!"
Green Day will induct Guns N’ Roses into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this Saturday. The band is also scheduled to perform at several music festivals this summer.
