If you’re headed to Comic-Con this week but you don’t have a badge to get into the various events, don’t fret! We’ve got a few options for things you can do even if you weren’t one of the lucky 130,000 people who did get badges.
For starters, check out the display across the street from the convention center – on 5th and West Harbor Drive in San Diego, you’ll be able to check out costumed fans awaiting their turn at the convention.
On Thursday (that’s tonight!), check out Cirque du Soleil at the MGM in Las Vegas, where it’s making its first appearance – with a free show. KÀ combines death-defying acrobatics with a 3D image show projected on walls. It’s set to go down at 9:30 p.m. (approximately) outside of Petco Park on Tony Gwynn Drive.
Throughout the convention, The Palms Restaurant will be taken over by Marvel Comics and Comic-Con attendees. It’ll be open for lunch service from Monday, July 18 to Sunday, July 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Marvel artist Humberto Ramos will furnish the San Diego location with some signature artwork.
Keeping with the restaurant theme, Cartoon Network will decorate Ciro’s Pizza, and Mary Jane’s Restaurant at the Hard Rock Hotel will be redecorated by the SyFy Channel.
Everyday during the convention, an Adventure Time Parade will wind through the Gaslamp District. Featured characters include Finn, Jake, Ice King, Princess Bubblegum, Lumpy Space Princess, and Lady Rainicorn.
Adult Swim will host nightly events at the Quality Social Club in the Gaslamp District. They will also be handing out free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream to hungry fans, along with tickets to fan-exclusive events.
Nickelodeon will be hosting theTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – at a pizza place, of course! Though it’s a ticketed event, fans can follow @TMNTMaster for ticket giveaways to the event that takes place on Friday, July 21, from 4-7 p.m. at Basic Urban Kitchen + Bar.
If you love Podcasts, don’t miss the Nerdist Podcast – guests for the show (which takes place at 11pm on July 23, at 4th and B in San Diego) include Kevin Pereira, the guys from Rifftrax, Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy, Bill Corbett, and most recently announced, Juda Friedlander.
If red carpet glitz is what you’re seeking, check out the premiere of Jon Favreau’s film Cowboys and Aliens, at the Civic Theater on July 23. Paparazzi and celebs alike will congregate at 1100 Third Ave. A-listers like Jon Favreau, Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig and Olivia Wilde are expected to make appearances.
Even if you don’t have a badge to get into panels, you can still make the most of your time at the San Diego Comic-Con!
