
It was a busy weekend at the theaters this weekend, with Justin Bieber being tossed all the way out of the top five movies, two new movies taking the top spots, and a Disney hit taking the lead. Let’s check out the stats.
The Liam Neeson-starring thriller Unknown came in at the number one spot, earning $21.7 million in its opening weekend.
Sliding in just behind Unknown was the brand-new I Am Number Four, which earned $19.5 million. This just barely slid past Gnomeo and Juliet, which came in third place, earning $19.4 million.
In fourth place is last week’s leader, Just Go With It. This weekend, the rom-com starring Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler pulled in $18.2 million in ticket sales.
The Martin Lawrence vehicle Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son came in at fifth place, earning $17 million.
Justin Bieber: Never Say Never slid from second place last week to sixth place this week, earning $13.6 million.
Oscar contender The King’s Speech earned $6.5 million over the weekend, earning a spot at number 7 on the top ten.
In eighth place is the Leighton Meester/Minka Kelly flick The Roommate, which earned $4.1 million, and rounding out the top ten were The Eagle and No Strings Attached, which earned $3.5 million and $3.1 million, respectively.
