It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Tom Bower is headed to The Farm. Bower, 74, will play Dwight Schrute’s great uncle, an eccentric man with a checkered past.
“Bower will play the Dwight siblings’ great uncle Heinrich Manheim, who is charming, greedy, manipulative,” Deadline reports. “(Heinrich) may have had to spend time in Argentina following World War II, thanks to his German National Socialist roots.”
A spinoff of The Office, The Farm will follow Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) and his siblings after they inherit the family beet farm. Bower joins cast members Thomas Middleditch, Majandra Delfino, and Breaking Bad’s Matt Jones. Middleditch and Delfino will play Dwight’s brother and sister, while Jones will play the role of cousin Zeke.
Though NBC has not officially picked up the series, the network plans to first air The Farm as an episode of The Office. If audiences like what they see, that episode will serve as a backdoor pilot for the series. The last season of The Office premieres this Fall.
In addition to his recurring role of Pop Pop in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Bower has starred or appeared in Die Hard 2, Clear and Present Danger, Nixon, and The Negotiator, among others.
