One of Comedy Central’s most popular TV shows left fans in the lurch last night. Rather than a new episode of The Colbert Report gracing television screens everywhere, a re-run ran instead. This is the first time in the show’s history that it has missed a scheduled taping!
The reason for this halt in production is still pretty unclear. A spokesman from Comedy Central, Steve Albani, sent the press an email saying the taping was canceled “due to unforeseen circumstances,” which tells us nothing. Audience members were notified prior to the show and the guest scheduled for the episode, author Susan Cain, will be rescheduling her appearance.
Whatever it was that kept Stephen Colbert from filming must be a pretty big deal, simply because he never misses a beat! The Daily Show, which is like the big-brother figure to The Colbert Report, has only missed two tapings and they were for serious reasons. Once was for the birth of Jon Stewart’s second child and the other time was due to the unexpected death of a staff member.
Hopefully all is well with everyone who works on the set of The Colbert Report. We will keep you updated on the details. As of now, the show is not expected to tape for the rest of the week.
