Gossip Girl's Blake Lively, Taylor Kitsch and and Aaron Johnson make up the three partners in both a polyamourous relationship and a quasi-legal medical marijuana business. The trio get more than they bargained for when they turn down an offer from a Mexican drug cartel.
The three share an idylic, if unconventional, existence on Laguna Beach, keeping up appearances as law-abiding medical growers while they make their real money shipping pot out of the state. The cartel betrays the spotless illusion of the Americans' trade; they the violence of the Mexican drug war home by kidnapping the guys' girlfriend to make a point. The guys hatch a daring plan with the help of a corrupt DEA agent played by John Travolta.
Fans of Oliver Stone's crazier offerings like Natural Born Killers will find plenty to like in Savages' violent, drug-fueled surrealism. And, those looking for eye-candy will be pleased with the view offered by the three leads. Early reviews also praise the performances of cartel bad guys Salma Hayak and Benicio Del Toro.
