"Big things have small beginnings," says Michael Fassbender's character in Prometheus, a film that's sure to be a big blockbuster this summer. Ridley Scott returns to direct what everyone is calling the prequel to Alien, while Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce and Michael Fassbender are included in the cast.
This trailer premiered over the weekend at Wondercon in Anaheim and it's pretty intense!
As two superpowers fight each other on Earth for the remaining natural resources throughout the solar system, a giant spaceship, known as the Prometheus, is sent to the distant planet of Erix to terraform the world, but problems arise when the crew discover the uninhabitable planet's indigenous life of bio-mechanoid killers. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.
Fassbender, whose character is an android, spoke about how impressed he was with the script at Wondercon.
"I was like, 'This is really great. When is it going to fall apart?' And then it just got better and better," he said. "It's rare to get intelligent scripts and scripts where you can't really put your finger on what's going to happen 10 pages in and you're not aware of the arcs of the characters or what their journeys are going to be. So, it's a page turner and hopefully it will be like that visually and I'm sure it will be because Ridley's a genius."
Theron also dished a little bit about her character in the film.
"She is this quiet storm," she said. "Initially I thought there was a lot of potential with that character to hide secrets and in that world I can be very scary, because it's not at that level where you can be, 'I'm outta here.' You're stuck on that spaceship. I thought there was something there where we could take your character who is the quintessential suit, the business aspect of how this thing is getting up there, and turn it into something that is a little different. Turn it on its head."
Prometheus opens nationwide on June 8th.
