On April 2, 2011, LCD Soundsystem played their last performance, a sold-out show in Madison Square Gardens. The show ran four hours long, and included performances by Reggie Watts and Arcade Fire.
Despite the fantastic reaction to the performance, LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy was disappointed that scalpers bought so many of the tickets, sending ticket prices as high as $1500 a seat, far out of the reach of most fans.
Now, fans who missed that final performance can get a look into the triumphant final 48 hours of the band. Shut Up and Play the Hits is a deeply intimate chronicle of LCD Soundsystem's final live performance and the action behind the scenes. The film will be in theaters throughout the country one night only, Wednesday, July 18.
The band's decade-long collaboration spawned three highly-acclaimed albums. Their final album This is Happening, broke into the Billboard Top 10.
