Katie Holmes and partner Jeanne Yang made their New York Fashion Week debut earlier today by showing a few pieces from the Holmes & Yang spring 2013 collection. Though Holmes & Young debuted the line in 2009, this is the first year they’ve shown their fashion in such a major venue.

“The brand is growing and expanding, and so we thought we would have something a little more substantial,” Holmes told WWD.

Unlike many fashion shows which feature modes strutting down the runway to pulsing techno music, Holmes and Yang chose to display their collection by having a group of models standing on elevated platforms. Guests walk around the models and can examine clothing at their leisure, a method of presentation Holmes and Yang have used in the past.

“We felt a presentation was more appropriate for the clothes we sell,” Katie said. “It’s a little more our speed in the way we wanted to go about it, and more of a transition for us from meeting privately with buyers in a hotel room to going right to a big show.”

Though fashion critics and style sites have yet to officially review the line, many of the early reactions are good with Glamour’s fashion director Anne Christensen calling the separates “great,” and InStyle editor Ariel Foxman admiring a simple black and white dress. Check out a few of the looks here.

Not surprisingly, Holmes & Yang is a bit out of reach for the average person with prices starting at $700 and going up to $3,000. However, Holmes & Yang pieces are available at Barneys New York and a few other high-end stores for women who can afford to splurge on designer clothing.

What do you think of the Holmes & Yang look?
