Jonathan Rhys Meyers is on a roll! Not only is the Irish actor slated to star in NBC’s Dracula, he’ll also star in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, a movie based on Cassandra Clare’s young adult fantasy novel by the same name.
“Rhys Meyers will play Valentine Morgenstern, described as a powerful but insane Shadowhunter looking to make the world pure at any cost,” writes The Hollywood Reporter.
Jonathan will be in good company. Lily Collins will play Clary Fray, a young woman who discovers a group of half-angel warriors, while Game of Thrones’ Lena Headley and Mad Men’s Jared Harris and Kevin Zegers are also among the cast. Harald Zwart will direct the film, due to begin shooting in Toronto this month.
The first book in the Mortal Instruments series, City of Bones, came out in 2007, with four more following in the next five years. A sixth book in the series, City of Heavenly Fire, is due out March 2014.
The film version of City of Bones has a tentative release date of August 23, 2013.
