Tony Award-winning actor Joe Mantegna was honored Friday (April 29) with a star on Hollywood’s prestigious Walk of Fame. Mantegna dedicated his star to aspiring performers and the men and women who serve our nation.
"I've got my name on the star. I don't need any more accolades,” the actor said on Friday. “I want to dedicate it to all those people who aspire and may not get there and the men and women in uniform who serve and protect us.”
Mantegna’s plaque, located at 6654 Hollywood Boulevard, is the 2,438th star to appear on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The 63-year-old Criminal Minds star said the honor was “very special” because it "sums up a whole career, as opposed to one particular film or television show or theatrical play.”
Mantegna, who rose to fame after his Tony winning performance in the play Glengarry Glen Ross, was honored in the category of live theater.
"That's where I started and most likely where I'll finish," he said.
Though he got his start in theater, Joe Mantegna is best known for his roles in such box-office hits as Three Amigos, The Godfather Part III, Forget Paris, Up Close & Personal, and The Simpsons Movie. Mantegna’s also held starring roles in the television shows The Last Don, The Rat Pack, Joan of Arcadia, and The Starter Wife. An Italian-American from Chicago, Mantegna voices the role of Fat Tony on The Simpsons. In addition to Criminal Minds, fans can next catch Mantegna (well his voice anyway) in Cars 2.
