James Marsden is on a roll! The X-Men star, who is slated to receive the Maui Film Festival Nova Award this Saturday, accepted another honor over the weekend – the inaugural Film Icon Award presented by Oklahoma’s deadCENTER film festival. The festival, held in Oklahoma City over the weekend, “promotes, encourages, and celebrates the independent film arts.”
The deadCENTER panelists selected Marsden for the award because of his successful career in movies and television, success the panel claims has elevated the perception of Oklahomans in film. Marsden, who was born and raised in The Sooner State, was honored to receive the Film Icon Award.
“Hopefully it will be around for awhile and this sets a precedence,” Marsden said. “I’m very honored to receive this award and I can’t thank everyone enough.”
Marsden began acting in the early ‘90s and has starred in the X-Men films, The Notebook, Hairspray, Enchanted, and 27 Dresses, among others. The actor also stars alongside Kirsten Dunst and Isla Fisher in the upcoming comedy, The Bachelorette, as well as the Sundance-winning film Robot and Frank.
