When Skyfall is released November 9th, it will be the 23rd James Bond film to enrapture audiences with secret agent adventures. It was 1962 when Sean Connery starred as 007 in the first cinema adaptation of an Ian Fleming novel, Dr. No.

As the longest running franchise in film history, special events are planned all over the world for the 50th anniversary celebration known as Global James Bond Day this Friday, October 5th.

  • In New York, The Museum of Modern Art will host a film retrospective, while the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles will host a Music of Bond Night.
  • In the United Kingdom, an auction of James Bond memorabilia is taking place at Christie's with all proceeds going to UNICEF and a number of charitable causes.
  • In Belgium and South Africa, offices will celebrate with Bond-themed Casual Fridays where employees will forgo jeans and t-shirts for gowns and tuxedos.
  • In Australia, Belgium, France, Holland, Indian, Japan, Latvia, Mexico, and Russia, the feature documentary EVERYTHING OR NOTHING: The Untold Story of 007 will be screened.
  • Radio stations around the world are planning to play Bond theme songs.
  • Pre-sale tickets for Skyfall will be available in most locations on Friday.
Daniel Craig returns as James Bond for the third time in Skyfall, while Adele has written and recorded the theme song at London's Abbey Road Studios with a 77-piece orchestra. She will release the song on her website Friday.
