Apparently 19 children still isn’t enough for Jim and Michelle Duggar. The Evangelical couple announced Tuesday morning that they are expecting baby number 20!
I don’t know if they’re doing it for an extension on their reality show, because they truly feel it’s the right thing to do or to try and score some additional airtime on TLC’s other hit series, My Strange Addiction. But seriously, there comes a time when enough is enough.
I’m kind of sick of hearing about Michelle’s constantly packed womb because I feel like she’s putting lucky number 20's life at risk. Obviously, there’s nothing she can do at this point, but conceiving another child without trying to take precautions was careless.
You might remember seeing 19 Kids and Counting when baby #19, Josie, made her entrance into the world. That little girl almost didn’t make it, and I say 'little' because she was delivered 3 months early weighing in at only 1 pound and 6 ounces. After Michelle's emergency cesarean-section, Josie spent months in the newborn intensive care unit. Last December she celebrated her first birthday, which was an uncertain milestone, and the tiny tot was still receiving oxygen and being monitored while she slept.
You’d think the couple would recognize that maybe Michelle's body can’t handle carrying anymore children to term. I mean, 19 kids is a startling amount in today's society. I hope for the child’s sake that Michelle’s body can fight through this pregnancy and birth a healthy baby, but I’m concerned for the alternative. There are a lot of crucial developments that takes place in those last few weeks, let alone months. Knowing there's a chance your child won't have that period of development and conceiving anyway is wrong and selfish, in my opinion. Your child will likely be born with underdeveloped lungs among other things. Breathing is pretty essential the last time I checked.
Please Duggars, let this be the last time you’re careless enough to conceive again.
