It is a sad day for all of the Dirty Dancing fans out there! The resort where Johnny Castle and Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman shared their passion and fell in love has literally burned to the ground.
It’s 25 years later and Jennifer Grey is 52, Patrick Swayze passed away and Kellerman’s is nothing more than a pile of ashes! Well, it was called Kellerman’s in the 1987 box office hit, but one of the parts of the resort you saw on-screen was actually Brown’s Hotel. Up until the fire it had been converted into a 396-unit condominium complex. Unfortunately for all of residents, they will not be able to call this landmark in film history home anymore. Thanks to the disaster that is being called “the largest fire in Catskills history,” there isn’t much left standing.
On the positive side, while a good chunk of the movie was recorded at Brown’s, there was also quite a bit filmed at Mountain Lake Resort in Roanoke, Virginia. So, if you were hoping to do a little dirty dancing while carrying a watermelon to a super-secret staff party, you still have your chance!
