The cast is almost set for Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby. The all star cast could gain a bit more star power if schedule conflicts can be cleared.
Leonardo DiCaprio is on board as Jay Gatsby. Tobey Maguire is Nick Carraway, who serves as the story’s narrator. The part of Daisy Buchanan will played by Carey Mulligan, Gatsby’s love interest. One role yet to be cast is that of Tom Buchanan, Daisy’s husband. While Bradley Cooper has been lobbying for the part it seems Luhrmann is eyeing another hollywood heavy weight.
Ben Affleck has expressed an interest in tackling the role of the wealthy chap and Luhrmann is in favor of it. However there is a slight problem. Affleck is scheduled to start shooting his next directorial project, Argo, a political thriller, this September. Luhrmann and the production company for Gatsby are starting principal photography in Sydney this August. If both sides can maneuver their scheduling, there seems to be a good chance Affleck will join the cast.
Should the two sides be able to work an out deal it would be a disappointing day for Bradley Cooper. No matter who wins the part in the end either actor would do the part of the wealthy fool justice.
Look for the adaptation of F.Scott Fitzgerald’s classic to hit theaters sometime next year.
