Rumors have been circulating for years about an Arrested Development movie and it looks like it just might happen. Jeffrey Tambor was recently asked about the project it and he said "I know there is an idea kind of circulating, but everybody is on board and probably by next year at this time we’ll be in it."
No one has seen a script, yet series creator Mitchell Hurwitz and co-executive producer James Vallely are reportedly working on the screenplay for a feature length film version of the short lived Fox series.
Hurwitz did not want to start on the project until all key actors including Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, David Cross, Arnett, Alia Shawkat, Portia de Rossi and Jeffrey Tambor, were on board with the project.
If Jeffrey is right and everyone is on board, fans should be able to see the film sometime in the near future. Although this project has been hanging around since the series was cancelled it’s still anyone’s guess if it will actually happen.
The series aired on Fox for three seasons and never drew a large audience. It was the story of a very dysfunctional eccentric family whose wealth was amassed by a frozen banana stand. When the patriarch is thrown in jail for fraud and the family finds its assets frozen it falls to the sane and responsible son to keep the family together.
It is regarded as one of the best comedies to run on television despite the lower viewership. Fans are devoted and have been waiting patiently for the movie.
