The next James Bond flick has been in the works for some time, what with MGM’s financial hardships. The world hasn’t seen a Bond film since 2008. However, there is a glimmer of hope!
The U.K. tabloid The Sun reports that Anthony Hopkins is rumored to be up for the role of the villain in the upcoming Bond film.
The source says that “The only stumbling block seems to be the number of films he is signing up for. There is a chance the character they want him to play could become a regular feature, like Blofeld back in the day.”
The report has yet to be confirmed, but just the thought is exciting! Hopkins does a wonderful villain, making even the worst of the worst seem charming. Hopkins villain against Daniel Craig’s hero would make for a great pairing.
Back in January it was reported that Javier Barden got an offer for the film as well.
There is still a lot of speculation regarding casting, but it is exciting to see that Bond 23 (the film has yet to be given a proper title) is moving forward.
The film will be directed by Sam Mendes and Judi Dench has confirmed her return as Bond’s boss, M. It is currently slated to release November 9, 2012.
