When the Tampa Bay Rays invited Avril Lavigne to perform as part of their summer concert series they expected her to leave the f bombs at home. Well, sadly she did not, leaving the team profusely apologizing to their fans.
Lavigne took the stage at Tropicana Field following the 7-3 loss to the Cleveland Indians. As she was about to begin her set she ran into a problem with the microphone, to which she was met with boo’s. In response she proceeded to launch into a profanity strewn rant to the crowd of 25,000, saying “f—ing happens on a baseball field”.
The 26 year-old singer later apologized and thanked the team for inviting her to perform.
“We just had so much fun tonight and we want to take the tirade out and say thank you the Tampa Bay Rays!” she told the crowd. “I’m truly sorry if anyone was offended by my language.”
The incident had the team doing damage control and apologizing for her outburst too.
“The Rays demand profanity-free performances from all of our concert performers and we are extremely disappointed by the language used in last night’s show,” a team spokesperson said. “it’s not consistent with the atmosphere that Tropicana Field is known for.”
