Major League Baseball and the Wounded Warrior Project

This Memorial Day, take a break from barbecues or the beach to spare a thought for the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform. One great organization working to help those that serve is The Wounded Warrior Project. The Wounded Warrior Project was established when a group of veterans and their friends got together to begin helping those returning from war in Iraq and Afghanistan adjust to civilian life. The organization now helps thousands of veterans wounded during service to their country.

Recently, the New York Yankees appointed relief pitcher David Robertson as their team spokesperson for the Wounded Warrior Project. Robertson told MLB.com that he first learned about WWP from outfielder Johnny Damon, and that he went to Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington for several visits. “It's such a great cause,” he said. "These guys are out there on the front lines risking their lives.

"You can bring them hope, but the best thing is that you can spread the word. You can put the word out there that these guys are here and they need help getting eased back into their lives.”

Olivia Wilde supports clean water

The Hangover movies have been good to their stars. The films’ massive profits have led to a number of opportunities for all involved, with other starring roles, TV series and more.

Zach Galifianakis, one of the stars of The Hangover 3, has shared his good fortune in a very personal way. In the 1990s, he became friends with Mimi Haist, who worked at a local laundromat for tips. When he learned two years ago that she had become homeless, he helped her get into an apartment and began taking the 87 year old to movie premieres and other red carpet events. She was his date for premiere of Hangover 3.
